Germany may block ChatGPT

According to Reuters, Ulrich Kelber, the Federal Data Protection Commissioner of Germany, stated in a comment on April 3 to the German newspaper Handelsblatt that Germany may follow in Italy's footsteps and "ban" ChatGPT due to data security concerns. The spokesperson stated that banning the use of this software would fall within the jurisdiction of the Federal Data Protection Authority in Germany.

Currently, the agency has requested more information from Italian regulatory authorities regarding their ban on ChatGPT. Meanwhile, privacy regulators in France and Ireland have also contacted Italian data regulators to discuss and communicate about their investigation findings.

However, in Italy, the move to "ban" ChatGPT was quickly criticized by Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini. He stated that this ban could harm the country's business and technological innovation, and he hoped that the institution could quickly find a solution to restore ChatGPT's access to Italy.
